Modular Totemic Sculpture in Shou Sugi Ban and Linseed Oil finish, based on 2x4/2x6 Douglas Fir blanks. This sculpture and base are are designed for indoor or outdoor display. Outdoor installation is best accomplished through setting in concrete or, in some applications, by utilizing the included base on a level surface, either a patio or patch of prepared gravel or slate. The sculpture stands roughly 91” tall. The 14” x 20” base can be filled with ballast (I favor black Ash Beach pebbles—$18/bag at Home Depot) and it comes with adjustable feet to assist at arriving to a level stance on the leveled outdoor surface or on floors and carpets indoors.
Carved construction, arrived through use of a variety of power and hand saws and grinders and modest use of mortar. The “halo” piece is milled from Virginia Black Locust. All pieces sanded, then treated with live flame. The Shou Sugi Ban treatment and Linseed Oil finish ensure weatherproof, bug-proof lifespan. The sculpture is modular in that it comes in three separate pieces— a 2x6 main section, a 2x4 extension piece that slides into place and is secured using a pair of vintage screws, and a round halo feature that all bolts on installed hanger bolts. The pieces come together easily and solidly with all fittings and hardware supplied.

However, this sculpture can also be safely and effectively shipped in two boxes, one 82” tube for the body piece and a second box for the base, extension and “halo” pieces, as well as assembly and installation instructions.
Finally, a more detailed word about shipping. Shipping these pieces is expensive, both for the transit and for the time and materials that goes into the packaging. Although free shipping is offered for CONUS destinations, please know that the actual shipping costs are significant at my end.
